Is it necessary to travel to Brazil to submit documents?
Yes, most types of residency permits are processed within Brazil, through the Polícia Federal. The exception are visas obtained in advance through consulates; however, even with a consulate-issued visa, you must still submit documents in Brazil and undergo biometric data collection. Where are residency permit documents submitted?

What is the validity period of a residency permit?
Temporary residency permits are issued for 1 year with the right to renew. Investor and business residency permits are issued for 4 years, after which permanent (indefinite) residency can be obtained. Is it necessary to obtain a CPF along with the residency permit?
